Emily is the founder and director of The Weathering Observatory.
She is an environmental justice researcher and policy expert with over 20 years of experience bridging academic rigor with applied climate action. Having transitioned from an academic career to leadership roles in the NGO sector, she has consistently focused on using data-driven investigations to address urgent environmental challenges. Her background includes leading the data investigation team at the climate NGO Global Witness, conducting consultancy projects on the Sustainable Development Goals for the United Nations, and serving on the board of the Scotswood Natural Community Garden and Rainforest Foundation UK.
Dr. Clough is deeply committed to climate justice, frequently exploring the local impacts of environmental crises—from researching the social inequalities of AI technologies at the Ada Lovelace Institute to advocating for UK communities experiencing repeated flooding. Throughout her work, she emphasizes the ethical use of data and the translation of complex research into actionable policy to drive real-world change.
